The Ministry of Defence has expressed its support for the recent appointment of Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, as Deputy Director, Security and Intelligence I for the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Presidential Campaign Council. This announcement was made on Sunday through a statement by the Chief Information Officer, Queeneth Iheoma-Hart, representing the Director of Information and Public Relations.
The ministry emphasized that President Bola Tinubu's decision to appoint Matawalle underscores his trust in the minister's extensive experience in public service, security management, and political mobilization. In his new role, Matawalle is tasked with several critical responsibilities aimed at ensuring the safety and security of campaign activities across the nation.
Among his duties, Matawalle will oversee the Security Architecture for Campaign Activities, which includes safeguarding candidates, campaign officials, and supporters. He will also manage Intelligence and Risk Assessment, collaborating with security agencies to conduct threat analyses and develop strategies to mitigate risks associated with campaign operations in various states.
Additionally, Matawalle will facilitate Inter-Agency and Stakeholder Coordination, working closely with traditional rulers, community leaders, and various groups to bolster support for the campaign's security framework. The ministry highlighted that Matawalle's appointment is a testament to his commendable track record in public service and his proactive approach to security management.
As Minister of State for Defence, Matawalle has been instrumental in advancing the administration's security agenda, contributing to policy implementation, engaging with security agencies, and advocating for the welfare of troops and infrastructure development.
In response to his new appointment, Matawalle expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the APC leadership for their confidence in him.
