In a significant development in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria, Alhaji Wakiil Goni Mama, a politician from Yobe State known as Mai Salati, has been arrested by troops of Operation HADIN KAI. He faces serious allegations of providing logistical support to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and attempting to bribe military personnel to secure the release of detained suspects linked to terrorism.

The arrest occurred following intelligence-led operations conducted by the Commander of Sector 2 and the 27 Task Force Brigade, who have been monitoring the politician's activities. Reports indicate that Mama was apprehended after he allegedly tried to intervene in the release of suspects arrested in Kanamma, Yobe State, who were believed to be involved in supplying logistics to terrorist groups.

Military sources revealed that Mama's attempt to bribe soldiers was met with immediate action, leading to his arrest instead of the intended release of the suspects. He, along with the other detainees, has been transferred to Maiduguri for further investigation and interrogation. This move is aimed at uncovering the depth of his alleged connections with terrorist networks operating in the region.

The arrest has sparked discussions on social media, with some claiming it is politically motivated, especially following Mama's recent defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). However, security analyst Zagazola Makama has refuted these claims, emphasizing that the military operation was solely based on serious allegations concerning terrorism logistics and bribery attempts.

Makama stated, "The military operation, according to security sources, has nothing to do with any politics, but by allegations bordering on terrorism logistics and an attempt to interfere with the detention of persons suspected of supplying logistics to ISWAP." This assertion underscores the military's commitment to addressing the critical issue of terrorism in the North-East.

The implications of this arrest are profound, as it highlights the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in disrupting the supply chains that support terrorist organizations. Military sources stressed that counter-terrorism efforts rely heavily on the ability to dismantle financial, logistical, and communication networks that sustain such groups. As investigations continue, the outcome could have significant ramifications for the region's security landscape.
