Ogun transport unions endorse Yayi for 2027 governorship election
Nine transport unions in Ogun State have united to support Solomon Adeola, known as Yayi, for the upcoming governorship election.

In a historic move, nine transport unions in Ogun State have officially endorsed Solomon Adeola, commonly referred to as Yayi, as their candidate for the 2027 governorship election. This significant announcement was made during a rally held at the Ake Palace Pavilion in Abeokuta, where members of the unions gathered to show their collective support.
The unions that have come together under the banner of the Transport Unions Alliance for Yayi include the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Ogun State Park Management Services Limited, and the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria, among others. This coalition marks the first time that these transport unions have united to endorse a single governorship candidate, highlighting a new level of political awareness among the groups.
Tiwalade Akingbade, the Chairman of the planning committee and State Secretary of RTEAN, emphasized the importance of this endorsement, stating, "This is historical because this is the first time we are coming out to endorse a governorship candidate." He further explained that their support for Adeola was based on his proven capabilities rather than ethnic or sectional affiliations. Akingbade expressed confidence in Adeola's ability to sustain the state's development, reinforcing that their decision was rooted in his qualifications and track record.
The theme of the rally, "Consolidation of Proven Capacity and Competence," resonated with the unions' assessment of Adeola. Akingbade noted that all nine union chairmen had signed an endorsement card presented to Adeola, solidifying their commitment to his candidacy.
Alhaji Shamsudeen Apelogun, the National President of ACOMORAN, remarked that the unions' collective endorsement reflects their political awareness and highlights their role as significant stakeholders in Ogun State's economy. He urged members to critically evaluate the records of candidates before making political decisions, emphasizing the need for a united front in supporting candidates who demonstrate genuine capability.
In response to the endorsement, Solomon Adeola expressed gratitude for the support from the transport unions, promising to continue the development trajectory of Ogun State if elected. He stated, "I can tell you that the people of Ogun State are about to witness the biggest development in the history of this state," assuring residents of his commitment to progress.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, who also addressed the gathering, praised the unprecedented unity displayed by the transport unions. He described the endorsement as a significant milestone in the state's political landscape, stating, "This speaks to continuity. This speaks to socio-economic development. This speaks to investor confidence because investors are looking at Ogun State and they are saying nothing will change."
Abiodun also urged transport operators to avoid arbitrary fare increases, highlighting the state government's investment in infrastructure, which includes the construction and reconstruction of over 1,700 kilometers of roads. He reassured the unions that these developments aim to create a thriving environment for their businesses, ultimately benefiting the entire state.
