Delete Your Account

Delete your NigeriaNewsFeed account, or request deletion if you cannot sign in

You can delete your NigeriaNewsFeed account at any time. There are two ways to do it, depending on whether you can still sign in.

Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Once your account is deleted you cannot sign in again or recover it, and any Marketplace wallet balance is removed. Please read what happens to your data before you continue.
Option 1 — Fastest

If you can sign in

Delete the account yourself, immediately, from your profile. No waiting and no need to contact anyone.

  1. Sign in at https://nigerianewsfeed.com/login.
  2. Open your Profile (tap your username or avatar in the menu).
  3. Go to the Edit Profile / Settings tab.
  4. Scroll to the bottom and select Delete My Account.
  5. Confirm, then enter your account password.

Your password is required so that nobody else can delete your account. The same steps work in the NigeriaNewsFeed mobile app — open your profile, go to settings, and choose Delete My Account.

Option 2

If you cannot sign in, or no longer have the app

Use the form below to ask us to delete your account. You do not need an account, a password, or the app installed to send this request.

Before you use this form, it is worth trying these — they are instant, and Option 1 above is always faster:

The name shown on your posts and profile.
We may reply here to confirm the account is yours.

This form does not delete anything immediately. It sends a request to our team, who will verify that the account is yours first.

Prefer email?

You can email us instead at contact@nigerianewsfeed.com with the subject line Account Deletion Request. Please include your username, the email address the account was registered with, and anything that helps us confirm the account is yours.

Either way, we will need to verify that the account belongs to you before deleting it. This protects you from someone else deleting your account.

What happens to your data

Deleting your account does three different things to three different kinds of data. Please read this carefully, because the third one surprises people.

Why are posts kept? Discussions on NigeriaNewsFeed are conversations between many people. Removing one person's messages would break the threads other members replied to and leave those conversations unreadable. Your contributions therefore stay, but they are detached from your identity. If a specific post of yours must be removed as well, tell us in the request form above or ask before you delete — once the account is gone we can no longer confirm the posts were yours.

Before you delete

  • Withdraw any Marketplace wallet balance. It is deleted with the account and cannot be refunded afterwards.
  • Ask for a copy of your data, if you want one, through our Contact page — before deleting, not after.
  • Ask for specific posts to be removed, if you need that, before deleting.

How long it takes

  • Option 1 (you delete it yourself): immediate. The account is anonymised the moment you confirm.
  • Option 2 (you request deletion): we verify the request first, then delete. We aim to complete verified requests within 30 days, and normally much sooner.

Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) and the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data. This page describes how to exercise the deletion right. For anything else, see our Privacy Policy or use the Contact page.

Questions

If anything here is unclear, please contact us before deleting your account. We would rather answer a question than have you lose something you wanted to keep.
