In a significant operation, the Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested over 20 suspected cultists across various locations in the state. This crackdown, which took place on October 8, was announced by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, who confirmed that the arrests were part of an ongoing effort to combat cult-related violence in the region.

The police operation targeted areas known for cult activities, including Swali, Akenfa, Down Yenagoa, and Agudama. DSP Mohammed noted that the Commissioner of Police had ordered the operation in response to a recent surge in cult clashes, particularly in Yenagoa, where at least five individuals were reported killed during violent confrontations between rival groups over the weekend.

Mohammed stated, "So far, 20 suspected cultists have been arrested. The CP will make a formal statement on that. Bayelsa State is peaceful now. We appreciate the efforts by various communities to ensure that these enemies of the state are apprehended." He emphasized that the police are committed to restoring peace and security in the affected communities.

The Commissioner of Police has instructed divisional and tactical teams to enhance patrols and improve intelligence gathering to prevent further cult clashes, initiations, and recruitment activities. The ongoing operation aims to dismantle the networks of these cult groups and ensure that the communities can live without the fear of violence.

The recent arrests reflect a broader strategy by the Bayelsa State Police to tackle the persistent issue of cultism, which has plagued the region for years. The police are actively working with community leaders and residents to foster cooperation in the fight against these criminal organizations, which pose a significant threat to public safety and order.

As the police continue their efforts, the community's involvement and vigilance remain crucial in the battle against cultism in Bayelsa State. The authorities are hopeful that these measures will significantly reduce the incidence of violence and restore a sense of security among the residents.
