Boko Haram attack in Adamawa leaves one dead and church torched
A recent assault by suspected Boko Haram militants in Adamawa State resulted in one death and significant property damage.

In a troubling escalation of violence, suspected Boko Haram militants attacked Bala-Tela village in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, leading to one fatality and the destruction of a church and a vehicle. This incident, which occurred on Friday afternoon, marks the second assault on the village since April of this year.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers arrived in large numbers, utilizing motorcycles as they indiscriminately fired upon the village. The attack has raised concerns among residents, particularly as Gombi LGA has seen a surge in Boko Haram activity, mirroring the violence experienced in the neighboring Hong LGA.
The previous attack on Bala-Tela, which took place on April 26, was notably more deadly, resulting in the deaths of 29 individuals. Those victims were reportedly gathered to watch a local football match when the militants struck, catching them off guard. This latest incident adds to a series of violent episodes in the region, including a September 7 attack in Dzangula, which left 12 people dead.
Despite the severity of the situation, there has been no official response from military or police authorities regarding the Bala-Tela attack. Typically, the military refrains from commenting on such incidents, while local police often deem these attacks beyond their operational scope.
As the frequency of these attacks increases, the safety of residents in Adamawa State remains a growing concern, with communities grappling with the threat posed by Boko Haram militants. The lack of a coordinated response to these violent incursions continues to leave many feeling vulnerable and unprotected.
