Three individuals, including two CRIN staff, were kidnapped in Oyo State, prompting a police manhunt.

In a shocking incident, armed men abducted three individuals, including two staff members of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN), at the institute's Idi Ayunre facility in Oluyole Local Government Area, Oyo State. The kidnapping occurred during office hours on Thursday, October 8, 2026, raising concerns over security in the region.
The victims have been identified as Mrs. Eunice Babalola, head of the institute's Central Nursery, and Kehinde Gbalajobi, an agricultural superintendent. A third victim, who resides in the CRIN SS Quarters but is not affiliated with the institute, was also taken by the gunmen. Reports indicate that the two CRIN staff members were on foot, moving from the Central Nursery to the SS Quarters when they were seized.
According to sources, the kidnappers attempted to abduct additional victims at the Central Nursery but were thwarted by security personnel who engaged the attackers in a gunfight. This confrontation forced the assailants to retreat without capturing any more hostages.
Following the abduction, the kidnappers contacted the families of the victims, demanding a ransom of N120 million for their release. The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the incident and stated that a manhunt has been initiated to locate the kidnappers and rescue the victims.
Police spokesperson Ayanlade Olayinka stated that the victims were taken while inspecting crops on a farm within the institute's premises. He assured the public that the police are committed to ensuring the safe return of the victims and urged anyone with information to come forward.
The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges faced in Nigeria, particularly in areas prone to kidnapping. As the police intensify their efforts, the community remains on high alert, hoping for the safe return of the abducted individuals.
