The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara State has made significant strides in combating vandalism, successfully arresting two individuals suspected of damaging transformer cables in the Tanke-Iledu area of Ilorin. The arrests were made on October 5, 2026, following a tip-off that led to an intelligence-led operation by the NSCDC operatives.
The suspects, identified as Nurah Abdullahi, 20, known locally as Hartabo, and Sherif Abdullahi, 23, were apprehended during the operation, which also resulted in the recovery of various items linked to their alleged criminal activities. Among the recovered items were vandalized transformer cables, cable peels, a Bajaj motorcycle, a saw, a knife, and a pair of electrical gloves.
According to the NSCDC spokesperson, ASCI Ayoola Michael Shola, preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects are involved in the ongoing vandalism of electricity infrastructure within the Tanke-Iledu community. The command is actively pursuing additional suspects believed to be connected to these criminal acts.
Commandant Abbas Ndah Mohammed of the NSCDC commended the operatives for their diligence and professionalism in protecting critical national infrastructure. He emphasized that Kwara State will not tolerate any activities that threaten public safety or compromise essential services. Commandant Mohammed reiterated the NSCDC's commitment to conducting intelligence-led operations to identify and apprehend individuals involved in such illegal activities.
He further warned potential vandals and criminals that the NSCDC is resolute in its mission to safeguard government assets and ensure the socio-economic welfare of the residents of Kwara State. The suspects are expected to face charges in court once the investigation is concluded and a prima facie case is established against them.
This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by the NSCDC to combat vandalism and protect vital infrastructure, ensuring that communities can rely on stable and safe electricity services.
