Two individuals have been arrested in Bauchi for allegedly assaulting police officers during a routine check.

The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended two individuals for allegedly assaulting police officers while they were conducting a routine vehicle inspection. The incident took place on Saturday, October 3, 2026, along Yelwa Road in Bauchi, as part of the ongoing Operation Velvet enforcement.
According to the police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, officers from the 'E' Division Patrol Team intercepted a vehicle driven by a man identified only as Friday, alongside his accomplice, Yunana Ali. The officers requested to inspect the vehicle's documents, but the suspects reportedly refused to comply. Instead of cooperating, they became aggressive, leading to a physical confrontation with the patrol team.
During the altercation, the suspects allegedly assaulted the officers and damaged the uniform of an inspector. The police statement highlighted that the suspects were eventually subdued and taken into custody at the 'E' Division. A discreet investigation into the matter has since begun.
The Commissioner of Police for Bauchi State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, expressed strong disapproval of the assault, labeling it as an affront to lawful authority and a serious threat to public safety. He emphasized that such actions against police officers who are performing their official duties will not be tolerated. The Commissioner also reminded the public that there are lawful channels available for addressing grievances.
The two suspects are expected to face charges of criminal conspiracy, obstruction of public officers, assault, and malicious damage once the investigation concludes. The Bauchi State Police Command has urged the public to remain law-abiding and to cooperate with police officers during routine checks to help maintain public peace.
