The Bauchi State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the tragic murder of Jemimah Dutse, a former Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi South. Dutse was discovered dead in her home at Muazu New Layout, Yelwa, with her throat reportedly slit by unidentified assailants.

According to a statement from the police, the grim discovery was made on October 3, 2026, when a resident of the area reported finding her lifeless body in a pool of blood. The police were alerted around 2:07 PM, leading to a swift response from detectives who documented the scene and subsequently transported the body to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital for an autopsy and further examination.

In light of the severity of the crime, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered the case to be escalated to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department. This move aims to ensure a thorough and discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding Dutse's death. The police are committed to uncovering the truth and bringing those responsible to justice.

The police spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, expressed condolences on behalf of the command to the family, friends, and political associates of the deceased. He reassured the public that the police would leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice, stating, "The command commiserates with the family, friends, and political associates of the deceased and assures the public that no stone will be left unturned to ensure justice is served."

This incident is reminiscent of previous attacks on political figures in Nigeria, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding safety and security in the region. In November 2025, another APC chieftain, Umar Moriki, was reportedly killed by gunmen suspected to be armed bandits in Zamfara State, underscoring the dangers faced by political leaders in the country.

As the investigation into Jemimah Dutse's murder unfolds, the Bauchi State Police Command has promised to keep the public informed of any significant developments. Community members are urged to provide any information that could assist in apprehending the perpetrators of this heinous act.
