Recent police operations across Nigeria led to the rescue of 42 kidnapped individuals and the arrest of 96 suspects involved in various crimes.

In a significant operation spanning multiple states, the Nigerian Police Force successfully rescued 42 kidnapped victims and apprehended 96 suspects linked to various criminal activities between September 26 and October 2, 2026. This operation was part of the police's ongoing efforts to enhance security and combat crime across the nation.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Ineidu, detailed the outcomes of these intelligence-led operations, which were executed under the strategic guidance of Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu. The operations not only resulted in the rescue of victims but also led to the recovery of 16 firearms, 31 rounds of live ammunition, and 16 vehicles. Notably, two armed suspects were killed during confrontations with police operatives.
One of the most notable rescues occurred in Sokoto State, where police and military personnel thwarted a bandit attack, freeing 30 victims who had been abducted from vehicles returning from a local market. The security forces engaged the bandits in a gunfight, compelling them to retreat and abandon their captives, who were unharmed.
In Rivers State, police operatives intercepted a suspected kidnapping gang after a high-speed chase, successfully rescuing one victim and arresting a suspect. The operation yielded an AK-47 rifle and several rounds of ammunition. Meanwhile, in Gombe State, a collaborative effort involving police, military, and local vigilantes led to the arrest of four suspects and the rescue of two victims, with additional efforts prompting the release of another victim the following day.
Kogi State also saw successful operations when security forces rescued a telecom worker who had been abducted by armed kidnappers. The victim was part of a team maintaining telecom infrastructure when they were attacked. Following a strategic operation involving the deployment of teargas, the kidnappers fled, allowing the rescue of the worker.
In Delta State, police operatives rescued a 23-year-old woman who had been held for ransom, successfully tracking down her abductors after they demanded N245,000 for her release. The operation culminated in the arrest of six suspects.
Other operations across the country included the arrest of 13 suspected cultists in Anambra State and the foiling of an attempted kidnapping in Katsina State, where police tactical teams engaged suspects attempting to block a highway. These operations underscore the police's commitment to tackling various forms of crime, including kidnapping, armed robbery, and cultism.
CSP Ineidu emphasized that all suspects apprehended during these operations remain in custody as investigations continue. He reiterated the Nigeria Police Force's dedication to enhancing intelligence-led policing and fostering collaboration with communities and other security agencies to ensure public safety and security. The police aim to maintain operational pressure against criminal networks and assure the public of their commitment to protecting lives and property.
