Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has announced his intentions for the 2027 presidential election, emphasizing the need for a campaign that prioritizes the interests of Nigerians over political, ethnic, and religious affiliations. In a recent newsletter, he articulated his vision for the upcoming election as a pivotal moment for citizens to engage in discussions about the nation's challenges and the type of leadership required to address them.

Makinde stated, "For me, this campaign will be about putting Nigerians first." He expressed his commitment to a comprehensive campaign that aims to reset Nigeria, ensuring that it serves all citizens rather than a select few. To facilitate this, he plans to visit all six geopolitical zones across the country in the coming months. During these visits, he aims to meet with various stakeholders, share his ideas, and listen to the concerns of Nigerians.

The governor highlighted the importance of hearing directly from the populace, including workers struggling to meet their basic needs, business owners facing operational challenges, farmers dealing with security and market access issues, and young people seeking opportunities for a better future. He also acknowledged the concerns of families wanting to feel safe in their communities.

As part of his campaign, Makinde is currently reviewing his manifesto, dubbed “The Reset Agenda.” This document is expected to address critical issues such as security, economic stability, the rising cost of living, and food security. He assured that the manifesto will outline how proposed policies will be implemented, funded, and evaluated.

In a call to action for voters, Makinde urged them to assess candidates based on their past records, innovative ideas, and capability to deliver results, rather than being swayed by catchy slogans or charismatic personalities. This approach, he believes, will lead to more informed choices in the 2027 elections, ultimately benefitting the nation as a whole.
