ADC claims APC chairman orchestrated armed attack on campaign members in Edo
The ADC alleges that its members were targeted by gunmen during a campaign event in Edo State.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised serious allegations against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, claiming that its members were violently attacked during a political campaign in the Igueben Local Government Area. The party's Publicity Secretary, Chris Ojeikere, stated that the local APC chairman led a group of armed men who targeted the entourage of Kenneth Imasuangbon, a prominent ADC figure, alongside the party's senatorial candidate for Edo Central, Herbeta Okonofua.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Ojeikere detailed a harrowing incident where a member of ADC Ward 6, identified as Jerry Oliha, was shot at the premises of the Enogie of Igueben. Ojeikere reported that the attack was not an isolated incident, noting that it was the third time that day that the ADC entourage had come under fire, with previous shots fired at Ward 4 and Ward 5 of the local government area.
The ADC's statement expressed grave concern over the escalating violence against its members, linking it to a broader pattern of attacks allegedly orchestrated by the APC. Ojeikere highlighted that this incident follows a series of violent confrontations involving ADC members in various locations, including Etsako East, Owan West, and Owan East, all purportedly coordinated by local government chairmen under the influence of Jarrett Tenebe, an APC figure.
Ojeikere's statement condemned the violence, stating, "Reports confirm that this is the climax of the series of violent attacks against ADC members and infrastructure that the APC has recently vowed Jarrett Tenebe's threat to unleash AK 47 on Edo people was after all premeditated." He also mentioned that bullets were recovered at the scene of the attack and handed over to both the police and the Enogie.
The ADC has indicated that it will release a comprehensive report detailing these violent incidents and the ongoing threats faced by its members. The party has already informed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Igueben Local Government Area about the attack, seeking intervention and accountability.
As tensions rise in the political landscape of Edo State, the ADC's allegations highlight the increasing concerns over political violence and the safety of party members as the elections approach. The party is calling for immediate action to ensure the safety of its members and to hold those responsible for the violence accountable.
