The Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Hajia ’Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, alongside Chief Adenike Adebutu, the party’s governorship candidate's wife, has presented a cash gift of N1 million to retired Deputy Superintendent of Traffic, Anifat Bello. This gesture was made during a reception held in Abeokuta to honor Bello for her years of dedicated service as a traffic officer.
During the event, which took place at Obantoko, Sowunmi-Kolapo praised Bello for her professionalism and commitment, referring to her as a role model for younger Nigerians. She stated, "You are a role model for younger Nigerians. I want to commend you for your professionalism. Gold or silver, I do not have. But please accept this as a token of appreciation for your infectious commitment to duty."
The cash gift was split into two parts, with each leader contributing N500,000. Sowunmi-Kolapo expressed her belief that this honor marks the beginning of greater opportunities for Bello, urging other civil servants to emulate her exemplary service.
In her remarks, Mrs. Adebutu highlighted Bello's cheerful demeanor while on duty, saying, "I see you all the time while performing your traffic duty, ever smiling. One day, I was passing, and I asked myself, how does this woman manage to smile always?" She assured the retired officer that she would be part of the Adebutu administration if they win the upcoming election in 2027.
The reception was attended by various dignitaries, including Ogun PDP Chairman Dr. Abayomi Tella, who commended Bello for her selflessness and dedication to her duties. He emphasized that her positive contributions to the community should inspire others in public service.
Alhaji Semiu Sodipo, the Ogun PDP Secretary, also praised Bello for her integrity, noting her refusal to accept bribes during her years of service. He remarked, "People like you are very rare."
Bello's family expressed their gratitude for the recognition, with her daughter, Dorcas Olusegun, thanking Sowunmi-Kolapo for organizing the event. She stated, "Your thoughtfulness and generosity made this possible. Your gesture means so much to our family, and it will be indelible."
In a heartfelt response, Bello expressed her joy and gratitude for the honor bestowed upon her, praying for blessings for those who supported her. She also took the opportunity to encourage diligence among workers, particularly the youth, stating, "Everyone should do their job well. Our youths, especially, must know that hard work pays."
