In a tragic incident in Plateau State, two vigilantes lost their lives and three others sustained injuries during an attack by suspected gunmen at their duty post. The assault occurred around 11 PM on October 4, 2026, in Angwan Tsarki, a settlement within the Mangor area of Bokkos Local Government.
According to local sources, the vigilantes were on watch duty when the assailants opened fire on them. A community member, Bitrus Simon, expressed his outrage over the incident, labeling it as unfortunate and calling for enhanced security measures to safeguard residents. In a related development, the Plateau State Police Command reported another shooting incident along the Bukuru Expressway in Jos South Local Government Area. This separate incident occurred on the same day at approximately 4:30 PM, targeting a vehicle carrying traders returning from the Kara Market in Bukuru. Seven individuals were reported injured and are currently receiving medical treatment at the Military Clinic in Rukuba Barracks, Jos.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, condemned both acts of violence, emphasizing the need for swift action against the perpetrators. The Commissioner of Police for Plateau State, CP Ayodeji Faniyan, has instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing the Department of Investigations to take control of the investigations into both incidents, ensuring that those responsible are apprehended and brought to justice.
In response to the rising violence, the police have mobilized tactical and anti-robbery teams to bolster security in the affected areas.
