Gang Leader Killed in Plateau During Operation Against Soldier's Killers
A suspected gang leader was killed by troops in Plateau State during a manhunt for those behind a soldier's death.

Troops from Sector 9 of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have successfully neutralised a suspected gang leader in Plateau State amid ongoing efforts to address security challenges in the region. The operation, which took place in Qua'an Pan Local Government Area, targeted individuals linked to the recent killing of a soldier in Manja Forest.
The suspect, identified as Usman Ya'u, was apprehended on September 30, 2026, during a manhunt initiated following the soldier's death. Security sources revealed that Ya'u confessed to his involvement in the incident and agreed to assist the troops in locating the gang's hideouts in Jibiyal Forest. This cooperation was expected to facilitate the recovery of weapons and the arrest of other gang members.
However, on the evening of October 2, while troops and local hunters were advancing towards the identified hideout, they encountered additional members of the gang. This confrontation led to an intense exchange of gunfire. Tragically, during the encounter, the captured suspect was killed, and one of the local hunters sustained a gunshot wound. The injured hunter was promptly evacuated to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The operation is part of a broader initiative by security forces aimed at dismantling armed criminal networks and restoring peace in Plateau State. Authorities are committed to tracking down those responsible for attacks on security personnel and ensuring the safety of the local communities.
Following the incident, security operations continue in the area, with troops actively pursuing other fleeing members of the gang. The situation remains tense as the forces work to secure the region and prevent further violence.
