Adeleke's camp refutes APC defection claims after meeting with Tinubu
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke's recent visit to President Tinubu has sparked rumors of a potential defection to the APC, which his campaign team has firmly denied.

The Imole Campaign Council has categorically dismissed rumors suggesting that Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke is considering a defection from the Accord Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This clarification follows Adeleke's recent meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, which has led to speculation about a possible political shift.
In a statement released on Friday, Bamidele Salam, the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee for the Imole Campaign Council, emphasized that the visit was a standard political courtesy following the conclusion of the recent off-cycle elections in Nigeria. "The visit by Osun State Governor, Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke to His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu yesterday is in line with customs and political tradition at the conclusion of off-cycle elections in Nigeria," the statement read.
Adeleke's visit comes shortly after he secured victory in the Osun governorship election held on August 15, marking his second term in office. The campaign council highlighted that it was Adeleke's duty to pay respect to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, particularly after a tense electoral process.
The council further noted that President Tinubu has consistently advocated for free and fair elections, calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure a credible electoral process in Osun State. The meeting was framed as an opportunity for both leaders to discuss vital issues concerning peace, security, and the progress of Osun State following the elections.
Addressing the swirling rumors of a potential defection, the Imole Campaign Council firmly stated that there was no discussion regarding Adeleke moving to the APC during the meeting. "For the avoidance of doubt, the visit of Mr Governor and top members of his Campaign team had absolutely nothing to do with a plan to move from Accord to the All Progressives Congress as being insinuated in certain quarters," the statement clarified.
The council reassured supporters that Governor Adeleke remains dedicated to governance and committed to serving the people of Osun State. This meeting with President Tinubu marks Adeleke's first publicly known interaction with the President since his electoral victory, following a congratulatory phone call from Tinubu, who described the election outcome as a testament to the flourishing of democracy in Nigeria.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, Adeleke's camp remains focused on governance, dispelling any notions of a shift in party allegiance amidst ongoing speculation.
