The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended three individuals linked to a horrific attack that resulted in the deaths of a family of six in Oloba Village, located in the Lagelu Local Government Area of Ibadan. The arrests were made following a detailed investigation into the incident that occurred on September 22, 2026.

According to a statement from police spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlade, the suspects, identified as Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo, and Padonu Edward, were arrested based on credible intelligence received on October 2. The police reported that the suspects, armed with a locally made Dane gun, cutlasses, and a club, invaded the home of Ifeanyi Chukwu and his family at approximately 7 PM.

During the brutal attack, Ifeanyi Chukwu was shot by Akinbami, while Ojo and Edward assaulted his wife. Tragically, two of the couple’s children were tied up and thrown into a nearby river, alongside the bodies of the other family members, who were also killed during the incident. The police have since recovered the body of the wife from the river, while efforts are ongoing to locate the remains of the other victims.

The assailants reportedly made away with valuables including N200,000 in cash, a Boxer motorcycle, a chainsaw machine, and a spraying machine. Following the attack, detectives conducted a thorough examination of the crime scene, recovering several items believed to have been used during the assault, including the weapons employed by the suspects.

The police confirmed that all three suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime during interrogation. They are currently in custody, and the case is set to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.

Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has called for a comprehensive investigation into the incident, emphasizing that justice will be served for the victims and their families. The community remains in shock as details of the attack continue to emerge, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced security measures in the area to prevent such tragic occurrences in the future.
