Osun Poll: Adeleke’s camp to Ribadu, police — Enforce Tinubu’s directive

As the Osun State governorship election approaches, the Imole Campaign Council (ICC) has called on security agencies to adhere strictly to President Bola Tinubu's directives regarding the conduct of the election. The ICC, which supports the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke, emphasized the importance of neutrality and professionalism from security personnel deployed for the poll scheduled for August 15.

In a statement released by ICC spokesman Pelumi Olajengbesi, the council welcomed President Tinubu's appeal to the police and security agencies to maintain impartiality and protect voters. The President had instructed the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, along with heads of other security agencies, to ensure maximum security at polling units and safeguard voters during the election.

Olajengbesi highlighted the significance of these directives in light of the heightened political tensions surrounding the upcoming election. He stated, "The Imole Campaign Council welcomes the statement by President Bola Tinubu calling on the police and other security agencies to be neutral and professional in Saturday’s governorship election."

The ICC urged security personnel to fulfill their responsibilities without bias, ensuring that voters and electoral materials are protected, irrespective of political affiliations. They also called upon National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu to enforce the presidential directive effectively.

"Police officers must not pay lip service to this presidential directive. Voters must be protected. Polling units must be guarded. Troublemakers must be arrested regardless of party affiliation," Olajengbesi asserted, emphasizing the need for a peaceful and fair electoral process.

The campaign council further urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct the election transparently, from the accreditation process to the declaration of results. They appealed to the residents of Osun State to participate actively in the election, casting their votes without fear of intimidation.

As Governor Adeleke seeks re-election, he faces competition from APC candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, among others. The ICC encouraged supporters of Adeleke to rally behind him, citing his demonstrated capacity and empathy during his first term as reasons for their support.
