The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 47-year-old woman, Beatrice Mumuni, in connection with the recent murders of George Atuguba and his niece, Irene Atuguba, at their home in Sakumono. The incident, which occurred on October 30, 2026, has sent shockwaves through the local community.

George Atuguba, 57, and his 47-year-old niece, a mother of two boys, were fatally shot during a confrontation that reportedly stemmed from a financial dispute. Preliminary investigations indicate that George had borrowed GH¢500,000 from Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, who is now the principal suspect in the case. It is alleged that George failed to repay the loan, leading Osei Anto to visit the victims' residence to demand repayment.

On the morning of the incident, Osei Anto was accompanied by Mumuni when they confronted George and Irene. During this confrontation, a misunderstanding escalated, resulting in Osei Anto allegedly shooting both victims. They were quickly transported to a nearby hospital but were pronounced dead upon arrival.

The police have stated that Mumuni is believed to have played a significant role in leading Osei Anto to the victims' home prior to the tragic events. Following her arrest, the police have launched a manhunt for Osei Anto, who remains at large. Authorities have declared him wanted and are offering a reward of GH¢100,000 for any information that could lead to his capture.

The police have urged the public to assist in locating Osei Anto and have encouraged anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact local authorities or use the police emergency numbers. In an official statement, the police assured the community that they are committed to apprehending the suspect and ensuring justice for the victims.

As investigations continue, the bodies of George and Irene Atuguba have been transferred to the Police Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy, as the community mourns the loss of two of its members in this tragic incident.
