In a significant operation, three individuals were arrested in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, for allegedly impersonating officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The arrests were made by the Nasarawa State Police Command during a routine patrol operation in the Bukan Sidi area.

The suspects, identified as Mohammed Umar, Mohammed Nuhu, and Ibrahim Suleiman, were traveling in a Lexus IS 250 that lacked a registration number. The police, specifically the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, intercepted the vehicle and initiated an inquiry into the occupants' identities. During questioning, Mohammed Nuhu claimed to be an ICPC officer and presented an identification card he asserted was issued by the Commission.

However, the investigation took a turn when the driver, Mohammed Umar, failed to satisfactorily explain the ownership of the vehicle. This inconsistency led to the detention of all three individuals for further questioning. Subsequent investigations revealed that the identification card presented by Nuhu was forged, raising serious concerns about their intentions.

In addition to the impersonation charges, profiling of the suspects uncovered that Ibrahim Suleiman had alleged ties to a criminal organization known as the Eiye Confraternity. This association further complicates the case against the trio, as law enforcement agencies continue to probe into their activities.

The police spokesperson, SP Rahman Nansel, confirmed that the suspects will face prosecution in court. Authorities are also working diligently to verify the ownership of the vehicle involved and to uncover any additional offenses linked to this incident. The police have emphasized their commitment to tackling corruption and impersonation, especially by individuals attempting to misuse the identity of government agencies for illicit purposes.
