Kano court sentences two men to death for brutal murder of employer
Two men have received death sentences for the murder of their employer in Kano State.

In a significant ruling, a Kano State High Court has sentenced two men, Adamu Aliyu, 22, and Mubarak Abdulsalam, 20, to death by hanging for the murder of their employer, Dahiru Musa, aged 32. The court's decision, delivered by Justice Fatima Adamu, comes after the defendants were found guilty of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.
The court proceedings revealed a shocking account of the crime, which took place on September 29, 2024, in Gaida Yan Kusa Quarters. According to the prosecution, Aliyu, who was Musa's employee, conspired with Abdulsalam to kill him. The plan involved poisoning Musa with rat poison before stabbing him multiple times with knives. Following the murder, the two men sought to destroy evidence by burning the victim's body.
A third defendant, Sadiq Sunusi, 19, was sentenced to seven years in prison for his role in the crime. Sunusi was found guilty of assisting in the disposal of the body. On September 30, 2024, he accompanied Abdulsalam to purchase petrol, which was later used to incinerate Musa's remains in an uncompleted building. Despite knowing the nature of the crime, Sunusi failed to report it to the authorities.
During the trial, the prosecution, led by Kano State Solicitor-General Salisu Muhammad-Tahir, presented compelling evidence, including knives, confessional statements, and a video recording. Five witnesses testified against the defendants, establishing a clear narrative of the events leading up to the murder.
Justice Fatima Adamu condemned the actions of the defendants as inhumane and wicked, stating that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt. The court also granted the convicts a period of 90 days to appeal the judgment if they wished to contest the decision.
The case has drawn significant attention in Kano State, highlighting issues of workplace violence and the severe consequences of such heinous acts. As the community grapples with the implications of this crime, the court's ruling serves as a stark reminder of the legal system's stance on murder and the importance of justice in society.
