In a significant operation aimed at safeguarding consumer rights, the Kano State Consumer Protection Council (KCPC) has apprehended several traders in Singer Market for allegedly altering the expiry dates on expired milk products. This action comes in response to an emergency alert from the Deputy Chairman of the Traders' Association, Aminu Umar Dogara, highlighting the malpractice within the market.

The KCPC, in collaboration with market leaders, swiftly mobilized officials to investigate the claims. Auwalu A. Muhammad, the Director of Monitoring of Traders and Products at the council, confirmed that the operation led to the arrest of the suspects and the sealing of their shops. He emphasized the council's commitment to protecting consumers from expired goods and ensuring that product information remains accurate and unaltered.

Dr. Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, the Executive Secretary of the KCPC, reiterated the council's zero-tolerance policy towards violations of consumer rights. He stated that any trader found guilty of tampering with product expiry dates would face prosecution and appropriate penalties. This stance underscores the council's dedication to maintaining public health standards and consumer safety in the marketplace.

Dr. Muhammad also praised the cooperation of market association leaders in this initiative, noting that their collaboration is crucial in preventing the distribution of substandard and adulterated products. He expressed confidence that such partnerships would significantly contribute to enhancing consumer protection and public health in Kano State.

The recent arrests serve as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by regulatory bodies to combat fraudulent practices in the market, ensuring that consumers can trust the quality and safety of the products they purchase. The KCPC's proactive measures reflect a broader commitment to uphold integrity within the trading community and safeguard the welfare of consumers across the state.
