A female student from Plateau State University, who was abducted over the weekend, has been rescued and is currently receiving medical attention. The 100-level student was taken by gunmen on Saturday night from an off-campus area in Bokkos Local Government Area, during which another individual was shot and injured.

Masara Kim, the Acting Public Relations Officer of the university, confirmed the recovery of the student during a press briefing in Jos on Tuesday. According to Kim, the student was abandoned by her captors following a coordinated operation by the university and a joint security team. "She was abandoned by her captors after the university, in collaboration with a joint security team, launched an operation that forced them to flee on sighting the advancing team," he stated.

The student has since been taken to a hospital for medical examination and is under care. Kim emphasized the university's commitment to ensuring the safety of its students and staff, stating that they are actively collaborating with security agencies to enhance security measures around the institution.

In light of the incident, Kim praised the swift response of the security personnel involved in the operation, which ultimately led to the student's safe return. The Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, Alabo Alfred, has not yet provided a comment regarding the situation as inquiries were ongoing at the time of reporting.

This incident highlights ongoing security challenges in the region, where abductions have become increasingly common. The university administration is expected to take further steps to bolster security and reassure the student body and their families.
