Nasarawa State police apprehend kidnapper during ransom collection operation
A joint operation by the Nigerian Army and DSS leads to the arrest of Mukaila Iliyasu in Nasarawa State.

Security forces in Nasarawa State have successfully apprehended a suspect involved in a kidnapping threat against a local woman. The operation, which took place in Eggon Local Government Area on October 29, was a coordinated effort by the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services (DSS).
The suspect, identified as Mukaila Iliyasu, allegedly demanded a ransom of ₦200,000 from a female resident, threatening her with abduction if she failed to comply. Following a tip-off regarding the threat, a joint task force was mobilized to address the situation.
In a strategic move, a soldier went undercover, posing as a courier tasked with delivering the ransom. This tactic proved effective, as Iliyasu was caught red-handed while collecting the ransom amount. The full ₦200,000 was recovered on the spot by the security operatives.
Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, the Acting Media Information Officer of Operation Whirl Stroke, confirmed the details of the operation in an official statement. After his arrest, Iliyasu was handed over to the DSS for further investigation and potential prosecution.
Major General Moses Kolo Gara, the Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, commended the troops and DSS operatives for their professionalism and effective coordination during the operation. He emphasized the need for continued collaboration and intelligence sharing among security agencies to combat kidnapping and other criminal activities in the region.
This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by Nigerian security forces to tackle the alarming rise in kidnapping incidents across the country. The military has previously linked the kidnapping crisis to various factors, including terrorist groups and bandit militias.
In a related development, Legit.ng reported that eight kidnappers were arrested in a separate operation aimed at rescuing abducted schoolchildren. This operation also involved neutralizing some of the kidnappers, showcasing the commitment of security agencies to protect civilians and maintain peace in Nigeria.
As the situation continues to evolve, the Nigerian Army and DSS remain vigilant in their efforts to thwart criminal activities and ensure the safety of residents in Nasarawa State and beyond.
