The Sokoto State Government has taken decisive action by sealing the office of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state due to an ongoing dispute regarding the ownership of the property. This move comes as tensions rise in the region, particularly following recent confrontations between ADC supporters and individuals believed to be miscreants.

Nasiru Dantsoho, the state Commissioner for Lands and Housing, announced the sealing of the ADC office in a statement released on Monday. He explained that the decision was made to prevent further disturbances and to protect lives and property in the area. The commissioner noted that an examination of the property’s ownership documents revealed that it originally belonged to the now-defunct Savannah Bank, and there were no official records indicating that the ownership had been transferred to any other entity.

"Following a review of the Certificate of Occupancy and other relevant documents, we discovered that this property belongs to the Savannah Bank, and that ownership has not changed as of today," Dantsoho stated.

In an effort to clarify the current ownership status, the Sokoto State Government has reached out to the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), which is identified as the custodian of the property. Dantsoho mentioned that the government is awaiting a response from the NDIC regarding the ownership issue.

While the government awaits clarification, the ADC office will remain sealed. Dantsoho emphasized that anyone claiming ownership of the property must present the necessary documents to the ministry for verification and proper documentation. He assured that once the rightful ownership is established, the property could be released accordingly.

The commissioner also warned that any attempts to forcibly access the sealed premises would be met with legal consequences.

This incident occurs against a backdrop of heightened political tensions in Sokoto State, exacerbated by allegations of violent encounters involving ADC supporters and state security operatives. The government’s actions reflect a commitment to maintaining public order and safety amid these challenging circumstances.
