Kano court sentences two to death for murder of childhood friend over land dispute
A Kano State High Court has sentenced two men to death for the murder of Dahiru Musa, motivated by a land ownership dispute.

A Kano State High Court has handed down a death sentence to two men, Aliyu Adamu and Mubarak Abdussalam, for the murder of Dahiru Musa, a crime driven by a dispute over land ownership. The court also sentenced a third accomplice, Sadik Sanusi, to seven years in prison for his role in the crime.
The case, which has drawn significant attention, revolved around the tragic killing of Dahiru Musa, affectionately known as Baba Senior, who was a childhood friend of Aliyu Adamu. Reports indicate that Aliyu Adamu confessed to the murder, revealing that his motive was to unlawfully claim the deceased's property, as he possessed the relevant land documents.
During the trial, Justice Fatima Adamu presided over the proceedings at Court 18 on Miller Road. The prosecution, led by Barrister Salisu Muhammad Tahir, presented compelling evidence that established the defendants' guilt. The court found that both Aliyu Adamu and Mubarak Abdussalam were guilty of fatally stabbing Dahiru Musa, while Sadik Sanusi was implicated for his involvement in transporting the murderers to the crime scene using his commercial tricycle.
Following the murder, the defendants attempted to conceal their crime by burning the victim's body, further complicating the investigation. The Kano State Government charged the trio with criminal conspiracy, murder, and concealment of a crime, leading to the severe penalties imposed by the court.
This case highlights the alarming trend of violent disputes over land ownership in Nigeria, where such conflicts often escalate into tragic outcomes. The court's decision reflects a commitment to addressing such heinous acts and delivering justice for victims and their families.
