Tragic truck collision in Edo claims multiple lives, causes severe traffic jam
A head-on collision between two trucks in Edo State has resulted in numerous fatalities and extensive traffic delays.

A catastrophic accident involving two trucks along the Lagos-Benin Expressway in Edo State has reportedly led to multiple fatalities. The collision occurred near the Ovia River when one truck, loaded with crates of drinks, collided head-on with another truck carrying glass materials. Eyewitness accounts suggest that both vehicles were traveling at high speeds in opposite directions when the tragic incident took place.
Initial reports indicate that the drivers, their assistants, and several individuals conducting business near the accident site died instantly. The scale of the tragedy has not only raised concerns about road safety but has also resulted in significant traffic congestion, leaving numerous passengers stranded for hours.
Passengers affected by the gridlock expressed their frustration over the poor condition of the road. Many have pointed out that the deteriorating infrastructure has led to increased transportation costs and delays that adversely impact their daily lives and businesses. Emmanuel, a driver who frequently uses the route, lamented the financial burden of constant repairs on his vehicle, stating, "After every journey, I have to visit the mechanic and spend a lot of money. The state of the road is affecting me and my business."
Olaoluwa, a passenger traveling from Lagos to Warri, Delta State, shared his distress after being trapped in the traffic for three days. He criticized the government for neglecting the roads while focusing on political campaigns, stating, "Instead of the politicians helping the citizens by constructing the road and providing them with the basic amenities, including security, they are busy campaigning and toiling with the emotions of citizens."
The outcry from passengers has reached a point where many are calling on President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action to improve the state of the roads, particularly for the benefit of drivers and commuters who rely on these routes for their livelihoods. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the urgent need for infrastructural improvements to ensure the safety of all road users in Nigeria.
