A tragic incident occurred in Mill Hill, north London, where a 29-year-old Nigerian man, James Abiwon, lost his life after a tree fell on his vehicle during Storm Boelo. The accident took place around 12:30 PM on Sunday along Dollis Road, as strong winds swept through the area.

Emergency services, including police, firefighters, and paramedics, responded swiftly to the scene. Despite their efforts, Abiwon was pronounced dead at the scene. His cousin, Tyrrell Okolo, described him as a “master of everything” and a dedicated family man who was well-loved by those around him.

Abiwon was not just a tech sales executive but also a semi-professional footballer for Aldershot and a musician with a significant following on YouTube, boasting around 40,000 viewers. He had recently graduated with a first-class degree from the University of Essex and was recognized for his achievements at work. Friends and family were preparing to celebrate his 30th birthday with a padel tournament, an event that will now proceed in his memory, with proceeds aimed at supporting his family.

Kwame Affum, a close friend of Abiwon, expressed his disbelief over the sudden loss, stating, “He was full of energy and talent.” Just two days prior to the accident, the pair had played padel together. Affum recalled that Abiwon had received a message from a friend about money owed for the court, but he did not respond, raising concern among his friends.

Witnesses to the incident reported hearing a helicopter and rushed outside to find the fallen tree blocking the road, with Abiwon’s car trapped underneath. A local resident, who laid flowers at the site, noted the chaos and concern as Abiwon’s girlfriend and best friend arrived while rescue efforts were ongoing.

The community has been left devastated by the news, with many expressing their grief over the loss of someone they regarded as a vibrant and talented individual. A neighbor, reflecting on the incident, remarked, “If it had been 10 minutes later, it could have been me.”

The Metropolitan Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Abiwon’s death, collaborating with local authorities and the coroner. Storm Boelo has been responsible for severe weather conditions across the UK, with gusts reaching up to 84 mph, leading to multiple incidents, including another fatality in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.

As the community mourns, tributes continue to pour in for James Abiwon, a man whose life was cut short far too soon, leaving behind a legacy of love, talent, and inspiration.
