Dr. Mary Adebayo named Nigeria's Best Teacher at 2026 Excellence Awards

Dr. Mary Adebayo, a dedicated educator from Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has been awarded the title of Nigeria’s Overall Best Teacher for 2026. This prestigious recognition was bestowed upon her during the Federal Government’s President’s Teachers’ and Schools’ Excellence Awards, which coincided with the celebration of World Teachers’ Day in Abuja.
Adebayo, who previously won the Best Public Senior Secondary School Teacher category, received a brand-new car as part of her award. During the ceremony, she expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the honor, reflecting on her journey in education. "I started this work in a private school. I kept doing the work, I did not know the Lord will reward me this way," she shared, highlighting her commitment to teaching despite the challenges.
The Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School Old Students Association (NUDGOSA) celebrated Adebayo’s achievement, emphasizing the pride her recognition brings to both the school and the community. In a statement released on Friday, the association noted that her success is a testament to her dedication and passion for education. They expressed hope that her accomplishment would inspire current students and teachers, as well as alumni, to strive for excellence in their own pursuits.
Hon. Nasir Gboyega Isiaka, a lawmaker representing Afon, also commended Adebayo for her remarkable achievement. He described her as an illustrious daughter of Afon, Imeko-Afon, and pointed out that her success reflects the potential for excellence within local communities.
