Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has issued a strong warning to Senior Secondary School students about the dangers of distractions that could derail their futures. Speaking at a Campus Flaws Awareness programme held at Trinity University in Yaba, Lagos, Jegede emphasized the importance of making thoughtful decisions during this critical stage of their lives.

The event, organized by the Etiquette Poise and Protocol Resource Academy under the leadership of Keji Oladimeji, aimed to enlighten students about the potential pitfalls they may face as they transition to higher education. Jegede urged attendees to prioritize their long-term goals over temporary pleasures, cautioning against the influence of bad friendships and social media.

"The choice you make will determine where you are tomorrow. Any mistake you make is yours," she advised, encouraging students to reflect on their identities and the kind of future they wish to create. She highlighted the importance of being aware of their environment and recognizing when fun turns into a distraction. "Don’t let temporary fun destroy your future," she warned.

In her address, Jegede also raised concerns about the impact of social media on students' lives. She pointed out that the content they consume and share can shape their behavior and reputations. "What you feed on social media will begin to manifest over time. Be careful about what you post," she said, urging students to avoid making decisions based on peer pressure or the desire to fit in.

The actress further encouraged students to seek mentorship and guidance when facing major life choices, stressing that they are not too young to make responsible decisions. "You can be relevant without losing your value. Protect your future. Think before you act," she added.

Also addressing the students, fellow actor Tobi Makinde echoed Jegede's sentiments, emphasizing that the choices they make could either propel them forward or lead to their downfall. He highlighted the importance of good manners and character, stating, "Whatever choice you make will make or mar you. Good manners and good character are crucial."

The Vice-Chancellor of Trinity University, Prof. Clement Kolawole, reaffirmed the institution's commitment to preparing students for higher education and life beyond the classroom. He noted that the university has 22 fully accredited programmes and has launched the Trinity University Skills Acquisition Academy to equip students with essential entrepreneurial skills alongside their academic studies.

The event also featured a stage play titled Campus Flaws, which illustrated the dangers of poor decision-making and social vices that students might encounter on campus. Oladimeji, the EPRA Director, stated that the initiative aims to help students navigate the challenges of tertiary education and avoid engaging in activities that could undermine their academic success.

Through this program, Jegede and other speakers hope to inspire students to make informed choices that will positively impact their futures and steer them away from distractions that could hinder their progress.
