Dangote Refinery successfully completes $1.5 billion IPO with AELEX's support
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has finalized a landmark $1.5 billion IPO, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria's capital market.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals FZE has successfully completed its Initial Public Offering (IPO) valued at approximately $1.5 billion, making it the largest single IPO in Africa to date. This landmark transaction is also notable for being the first public offering by a Free Zone Entity (FZE) in Nigeria.
AELEX, a prominent legal firm, served as Solicitors to the Offer, playing a crucial role in this significant development within Nigeria’s capital market. The firm announced that this IPO not only represents a breakthrough for Dangote Industries but also opens new avenues for large-scale businesses operating under the Free Zone framework to access public capital.
In a statement, AELEX highlighted its longstanding relationship with the Dangote Industries Group, noting that it had previously acted as the solicitor for the N60 billion IPO of Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc. The firm has also provided legal advice on various major projects associated with the group, including the $798 million syndicated limited-recourse financing for the Obajana Cement Project, which involved international development and export finance institutions.
The management of AELEX emphasized that the recent IPO will enhance public participation in the refinery project, thereby providing an additional source of capital for industrial development in Nigeria. This transaction is seen as a testament to the capacity of Nigeria’s capital market to support large-scale industrial projects, which is vital for the country's economic growth.
The completion of the Dangote Refinery IPO is expected to further broaden investment participation in the project and contribute significantly to the development of Nigeria's capital market. This milestone not only underscores the potential of the Nigerian economy but also sets a precedent for future public offerings by entities operating in Free Zones across the country.
