Husband denies allegations of foul play in wife's sudden death
Moses Ukoh speaks out after accusations from his late wife's niece regarding her death.

Moses Ukoh, the husband of the late Mary Ugwoma, has strongly denied allegations made by his wife’s niece, claiming he is responsible for her untimely death. Mary, who passed away on September 7, was 40 years old and had a known history of high blood pressure.
In an interview, Ukoh recounted the events leading up to his wife's death, stating that they had celebrated a family New Year festival on September 4. He left for work early the next morning, and the couple spoke later that evening when Mary appeared to be in good spirits. However, tragedy struck the following day when Ukoh received a call from a neighbor informing him that Mary had collapsed after returning from church.
Ukoh described the frantic efforts to get her medical help, detailing how she was initially taken to Medford Hospital before being transferred to Clover Hospital and finally to the National Hospital due to the severity of her condition. Medical personnel diagnosed her with a ruptured blood vessel in the brain, leading to bleeding, and stated that she required immediate surgery and intensive care.
Despite the medical team's efforts, including stabilizing her blood pressure, Mary’s condition deteriorated, and she passed away just three days after collapsing. Ukoh expressed his shock at the accusations from his wife’s niece, which surfaced on social media shortly after her death. He speculated that the niece's allegations may stem from past family conflicts, particularly regarding issues that arose when the niece lived with them years ago.
The niece, Precious, had been invited to help care for Mary’s first child while she completed her university studies. However, Ukoh noted that their relationship soured over time, leading to her eventual departure from their home. He expressed confusion over why Precious would make such serious accusations, emphasizing that he never physically abused his wife and that their disagreements were resolved amicably.
Following the allegations, Ukoh reached out to Mary’s family to inform them of the situation and seek their support. He stated that her elder brother advised him to remain calm and not engage with Precious, who reportedly dismissed family attempts at reconciliation.
As the family prepares for Mary’s burial, scheduled for October 1 and 2, Ukoh confirmed that he has not taken any legal action against Precious but remains open to investigations if necessary. He emphasized that his priority is to ensure a proper farewell for his wife, who he described as having been managing her hypertension for a decade prior to her death.
The medical report from the National Hospital indicated that Mary died from cardiopulmonary arrest and massive pontine hemorrhage, conditions linked to her high blood pressure. Ukoh stated that he has received a cover note detailing the cause of death and is awaiting the official death certificate.
As the family navigates this tragic loss, Ukoh continues to call for understanding and support, hoping to focus on mourning his wife rather than engaging in disputes over allegations that he considers unfounded.
