Residents of Kubwa, a satellite town in Abuja, experienced a terrifying incident early Sunday morning when a gas explosion rocked the Liberty Junction area. The explosion, attributed to a gas leak from a tank at a local gas station, resulted in damage to several nearby buildings and businesses but fortunately did not lead to any injuries.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the chaos began when a vehicle suffered brake failure and collided with the gas station. This collision caused significant damage to the facility and triggered a leak from the gas tank. In an effort to mitigate the situation, authorities quickly barricaded the lane adjacent to the gas station to keep vehicles and pedestrians at a safe distance from the leaking gas.

However, the barricade was reportedly breached by a commercial tricycle, commonly known as a keke. As the tricycle passed through the restricted area, a spark from its plug ignited the leaking gas, leading to the explosion. The blast occurred near the Liberty Hotel and directly opposite the Enclave Hotel, with the Byazhin Police Station located just a few meters away.

Following the explosion, the immediate area was secured, and firefighters managed to extinguish the flames.
