A tragic accident on the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway has resulted in five deaths and numerous injuries.

A multiple-vehicle collision on the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway has led to the tragic deaths of five individuals, as confirmed by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). The accident occurred on Thursday at approximately 3:18 p.m. near the LNG plant at the Ugwu-Onyeama axis.
According to Theophilus Okoduwa, the FRSC Route Commander and Public Enlightenment Officer for the Enugu State Sector Command, the incident involved a Dongfeng trailer, a Mitsubishi L300 commercial bus, and a Honda car. The crash resulted in injuries to 18 people, comprising seven males and 11 females, while four males and one female lost their lives at the scene.
Emergency responders were quick to act; within nine minutes of receiving the report at 3:25 p.m., FRSC officers, marshals, and patrol vehicles arrived alongside an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ambulance. The injured victims were promptly transported to Tex Hospital located at 9th Mile Corner for urgent medical care. The deceased were later taken to Ekochin Morgue at the same location after medical personnel confirmed their passing.
Traffic in the area has been diverted as recovery efforts continue to clear the wreckage from the roadway. Preliminary investigations by the FRSC indicate that the accident may have been caused by wrongful overtaking and excessive speed, highlighting ongoing concerns about road safety in the region.
The FRSC has reiterated the importance of adhering to traffic regulations to prevent such tragic incidents in the future. This unfortunate event serves as a stark reminder of the dangers present on Nigerian roads, particularly on busy expressways where heavy vehicles frequently operate.
