The Imo State Police Command has launched an appeal to the public for assistance in identifying and reuniting an abandoned baby girl with her family. The plea was made by the police spokesperson, DSP Okoye Henry, in a statement issued on October 19, 2026.

The baby girl was discovered on October 10, 2026, in Umuoma, Nekede, located within the Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State. DSP Okoye emphasized the urgency of the situation, urging anyone who may have information regarding the child's identity or her family to come forward.

In the official statement, the police highlighted the importance of community involvement in such cases, stating, "The Command, therefore, appeals to members of the public, particularly parents, guardians, relatives, or anyone with useful information about the child's identity or family, to report at Nekede Police Station to facilitate the child's reunion with her family."

The police have reassured the public of their commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals, especially children. They expressed gratitude for any assistance provided by the community in helping to locate the child's family.
