A Kwara State Polytechnic student, identified as Sheu, has tragically lost his life in a road accident involving a Conoil truck in Ilorin. The incident, which occurred near the Government Secondary School area on Friday, has led to a police investigation as the truck driver and his assistant have reportedly fled the scene.

The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the incident, with Commissioner Ojo Adekimi stating that efforts are underway to apprehend the truck crew. According to reports, the deceased's body was found on a bridge and initially classified as unidentified, leading to its burial by local health officials. The family of the victim was later able to identify him through a photograph taken before the burial.

Sheu, who was known to assist his mother with her clothing business, had borrowed a motorcycle from a relative to buy clothes for his side venture when the accident occurred. His family grew concerned when he failed to return home, prompting them to search for him. Their worst fears were confirmed when they learned about the unidentified body found on the bridge.

A relative of Sheu revealed that a tricycle operator, identified as Basit, played a crucial role in the aftermath of the accident. Basit, who witnessed the incident, helped transport the body to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), where medical personnel confirmed that Sheu was dead upon arrival. However, instead of notifying hospital staff about the circumstances, Basit allegedly misrepresented himself as the deceased's brother and handed the body over to the truck crew.

The family is now demanding justice, questioning whether Basit's actions were motivated by ignorance or financial gain. They also expressed their frustration over the mishandling of the body, which was buried without proper identification. The police have since recovered the motorcycle that Sheu borrowed, which was found at the Kulende Police Station.

Commissioner Adekimi reiterated the police's commitment to investigating the case, stating, "Yes, we are trying to arrest the drivers now." He emphasized the need for accountability as the investigation unfolds, ensuring that the truck driver and motor boy are brought to justice.

This tragic incident has sparked outrage and concern within the community, highlighting the need for better road safety measures and accountability in the handling of accident victims. As the police continue their search for the truck crew, the family of Sheu is left grappling with their loss and seeking answers in the wake of this devastating event.
