Osun Police Arrest Six for Armed Robbery, Investigate Four Murders in Ile-Ife
The Osun State Police Command has made significant arrests in connection with robbery and a deadly clash in Ile-Ife.

The Osun State Police Command has apprehended six individuals suspected of armed robbery and is investigating the deaths of four people linked to a violent clash in Ile-Ife. The arrests were announced by Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, during a press briefing held at the police headquarters on Monday.
Among those arrested is Olaiya Sunday, 27, who was taken into custody on September 24, 2026, during a stop-and-search operation in the Ipetumodu area. He was found riding an unregistered motorcycle with an accomplice who managed to escape. Two victims identified Olaiya as one of the robbers who had previously stolen their motorcycle and mobile phones. Following the identification, he was arrested and the case was referred to the command’s Anti-Robbery Section for further investigation.
During questioning, Olaiya reportedly confessed to being part of a robbery gang that had targeted victims across Osun, Oyo, and Lagos states. He claimed that the group, which included five members, had previously robbed individuals by accusing them of being part of an unlawful society. The police recovered several stolen items, including high-end mobile phones and a motorcycle, during the investigation. Additionally, Akintunde Mariam, 28, was arrested for allegedly aiding the suspects by registering SIM cards using her National Identification Number.
In a related development, the police arrested Adekunle Ibrahim, 30, and Temitope Opeyemi, 29, in Ibadan, where they recovered five mobile phones believed to be stolen in Osun State. Efforts are ongoing to recover other stolen property, including motorcycles.
In a separate incident, the police have also detained Oniyefa Olayemi in connection with the murder of four individuals during a violent clash between rival groups at Alapa village, along Toro Road, Ile-Ife. The incident reportedly occurred between October 4 and 5, 2026, when armed men invaded the village, resulting in the deaths of Toyin Olagbaju, Emmanuel Agunbiade, Akeem, and Ademola.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the violence was linked to a dispute over control of a cocoa farm in the area, involving rival factions led by Awosunle Tosin, who remains at large, and Emmanuel Agunbiade. The police recovered various weapons and ammunition from the scene, including Dane guns and cartridges.
CP Zungura emphasized the importance of resolving disputes through legal means and urged the community to report any suspicious activities to the police. The command is intensifying efforts to apprehend other suspects involved in both the robbery and the murder cases, as well as to recover additional weapons associated with the violent incident.
