2027: Support APC or leave Kuje - Abuja council chairman threatens residents

The Chairman of Kuje Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Samuel Shekwolo, has come under heavy criticism after a video surfaced online showing him threatening residents who do not intend to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

In the video, which is currently making the rounds on social media, Shekwolo can be seen boldly declaring that any resident who opposes the ruling party should pack their bags and leave the council.

Addressing a gathering of constituents and loyalists, the local government boss attempted to justify his stance by citing the infrastructure and developmental projects driven by President Bola Tinubu and the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, within the Kuje area.

I have said in my area council, it's either you are doing APC or leave the area council; I'm not hiding that. With confidence, I'm saying it.

You know why, I cannot have President and Minister doing what they are doing and on the day of election, you will want to match me. It's either you are with us, or you are out," he said.

However, his remarks have sparked widespread condemnation from civil society groups and residents, who describe the ultimatum as undemocratic, voter intimidation, and a violation of the constitutional right to freedom of association and movement.

The FCT police command is yet to comment on this development.
