Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser on Media and Policy Communications to President Bola Tinubu, has firmly rejected claims made by Rotimi Amaechi, the presidential running mate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), that the President's economic policies contributed to the death of his mother. Bwala's response came during a segment on Channels Television's Politics Today, where he labeled Amaechi's assertions as unfounded and misleading.

Amaechi had previously stated that the economic strategies implemented by Tinubu's administration were detrimental, even going so far as to suggest a direct impact on his mother's health. In his defense, Bwala emphasized the absurdity of such a claim, stating that even the most irrational observer would not accept that the President's policies could be blamed for personal tragedies.

Bwala characterized Amaechi's narrative as a blend of misinformation and political theatrics, suggesting that his past affiliations with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may have influenced his current stance. He remarked, "Having worked in Atiku’s camp before and seeing what Amaechi is bringing to their camp, I think he is bringing a bit of what I would call liveliness but he is bringing a bit of fake news, populism narrative that is not necessarily, innuendo, and falsehood."

This exchange highlights the ongoing tensions within Nigeria's political landscape as the 2027 elections approach. As candidates sharpen their rhetoric, allegations and counterclaims are becoming increasingly common. Bwala's dismissal of Amaechi's claims reflects a broader strategy by Tinubu's camp to counteract negative perceptions and maintain support among the electorate.

The political climate is charged, with various parties vying for public attention and support. As the ADC and other opposition parties rally their bases, the discourse surrounding economic policies and their impacts on citizens' lives will likely remain a focal point in the lead-up to the elections.
