PDP's Wole Oluyede Calls for Continuity in 2027 Presidential Election
Wole Oluyede urges Nigerians to focus on performance and continuity for the 2027 polls.

Wole Oluyede, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the June 20 Ekiti State election, has emphasized the importance of making the 2027 presidential election a referendum on performance and national development rather than mere sentiment. In a statement released in Ado Ekiti, Oluyede urged Nigerians to evaluate the policies and reforms implemented by President Bola Tinubu's administration to determine whether to renew his mandate.
Oluyede articulated that Nigeria must not abandon the long-term policies initiated by the Tinubu administration, asserting that significant economic and infrastructure reforms require time to fully mature and deliver their intended benefits. He called on citizens to support Tinubu for a second term, which he believes should focus on continuity, consolidation, and the completion of ongoing projects.
He stated, "The 2027 presidential election should not be a referendum on sentiment. It should be a referendum on direction, performance, and continuity. It should be a referendum on what we have achieved, what remains to be done, and who has the capacity to take Nigeria from reform to prosperity."
Oluyede highlighted the importance of building on the existing foundation rather than starting anew, noting that Nigeria has spent decades discussing critical issues such as infrastructure deficits and economic diversification. He emphasized that now is the time to improve upon the progress made in these areas.
The PDP chieftain praised the various infrastructure projects initiated under the Tinubu administration, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway. He explained that these projects are not just about construction; they serve as economic corridors that enhance connectivity between farmers, manufacturers, and consumers, ultimately boosting productivity and economic growth.
However, Oluyede also stressed the need for the Federal Government to implement stronger maintenance systems and ensure transparency in project execution. He highlighted that the next phase of the Tinubu administration should focus on translating macroeconomic reforms and infrastructure investments into tangible improvements in citizens' welfare.
Key areas identified by Oluyede for sustained attention in the upcoming term include job creation, food security, affordable healthcare, education, power supply, and support for small and medium-sized enterprises. He pointed out that a stable economy, characterized by increased government revenue and improved investor confidence, is essential for enhancing public services and economic opportunities.
In conclusion, Oluyede called for a collective effort toward development, urging Nigerians to recognize progress while demanding accountability. He stated, "Let us disagree politically, but let us not disagree with development. Let us demand accountability, but let us also recognize progress where we see it."
As the 2027 elections approach, Oluyede's message resonates with the need for a focused approach to governance that prioritizes continuity and performance over sentiment.
