Dele Momodu, a notable chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has publicly endorsed Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, attributing his support to the governor's impressive performance rather than any personal or financial benefits. In a recent statement shared on social media platform X, Momodu expressed his pride in Adeleke's transformative impact on Ile Ife, the town where he was born.

Momodu, who was born on May 16, 1960, just three days after Adeleke, reflected on his roots in Ile Ife, highlighting the significant changes that have taken place under the current administration. He described the once ancient town as having evolved into a modern city, crediting Adeleke's leadership for this remarkable transformation.

In his statement, Momodu recounted his family's history, noting that his father, Jacob Momodu, migrated from the old Mid Western village of Ihievbe to Ile Ife, where he met his mother from Gbongan Olufi in present-day Osun State. He emphasized the values of love and contentment instilled in him by his parents, which have shaped his identity and aspirations.

Momodu's educational journey, which took place entirely in Ile Ife from 1966 to 1988, further solidifies his deep connection to the town. He stated, "Ile Ife was my rock," indicating the foundational role the town has played in his life and career.

The ADC chieftain made it clear that his support for Adeleke is rooted in the governor's evident achievements, saying, "I supported Ademola Adeleke, not because he is my friend, or for pecuniary gains, but for the glaring evidence of his superlative performance." This statement underscores his commitment to the progress of Osun State, irrespective of who holds the gubernatorial office.

Momodu also addressed potential challengers to his influence in the state, asserting, "Those who wish to claim ownership now are welcome. I’m not in competition with anyone. I’m proud of my glorious heritage." He reiterated his status as a significant stakeholder in Osun, emphasizing that he has never held a governmental position despite his connections with influential figures.

In conclusion, Dele Momodu's endorsement of Governor Adeleke highlights a growing recognition of the governor's contributions to the development of Osun State, particularly in transforming Ile Ife into a modern urban center. His statements reflect a deep-rooted pride in his heritage and a commitment to the future of the state, independent of political affiliations.
