The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested three men for alleged impersonation, forgery and possession of fake identification cards and uniforms of the corps in Gombe State.

The suspects are: Auwal Umar, 26, of Tukulma in Akko Local Government Area; Hamza Usman, 23, of Herwagana, Gombe; and Yakubu Muhammad, 22, also of Herwagana.

The suspects were paraded at the NSCDC State Command in Gombe.

The State Commandant, Idris Jibrin, who was represented by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Buhari Saad, disclosed that the suspects were allegedly found in possession of NSCDC volunteer identification cards and uniforms.

Buhari said the suspects were not genuine because volunteers of the corps were not issued identification cards.

He narrated, “We also have three suspects who are being held in our custody for conspiracy, impersonation, and forgery.

“We have Auwal Umar, male, 26 years old, of Tukulma, Akko Local Government Area. And we also have Hamza Usman, male, 23 years, of Herwagana, Gombe. The third suspect is named Yakubu Muhammad, male, 22 years, also of Herwagana, Gombe.”

The NSCDC spokesperson said the suspects’ alleged possession of the uniforms and identification cards raised concerns over possible attempts to impersonate personnel of the corps.

He stressed that the NSCDC did not issue identification cards to its volunteers.

Buhari added, “The above-listed suspects were found in possession of NSCDC volunteer ID cards and uniforms, whereas, I repeat, whereas none of our volunteer members has any form of identification.”

He insisted that the suspects would be arraigned in court after the completion of investigations.

The NSCDC urged members of the public to be cautious of individuals presenting themselves as personnel or volunteers of the corps without proper verification.
