John Frieda, the iconic British hairstylist known for his work with numerous celebrities, has died at the age of 75. His passing was announced by his salon via an emotional statement on Instagram, highlighting his significant contributions to the beauty industry and his role as a mentor to many hairstylists.

Born Alan Howard Frieda on July 9, 1951, Frieda grew up in a family with a rich history in hairdressing. He began his career at the House of Leonard salon in London, quickly establishing himself as a leading stylist in the 1970s. His exceptional talent led him to style the hair of high-profile figures such as Princess Diana, Jackie Kennedy, and other international stars including Twiggy, Mick Jagger, Nicole Kidman, Madonna, and Scarlett Johansson.

Frieda's influence extended beyond hairstyling; he built a global beauty empire with his line of haircare products, most notably the Frizz-Ease range, which became a household name. In 2002, he sold his brand to the Japanese cosmetics company Kao, further solidifying his impact on the industry.

The announcement of his death revealed that Frieda passed away peacefully, surrounded by family. His salon's statement expressed deep sorrow, stating, "It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that our dear John passed away peacefully… surrounded by his family." This sentiment was echoed by many in the industry, who recognized him not only as a talented stylist but also as a guiding force for aspiring hairstylists.

Frieda's legacy includes his two marriages; he was first married to singer Lulu, with whom he had a child, and later married Frances Avery Agnelli in 2019. He is survived by his wife, four children, and two grandchildren. Cetera Lamb, the creative director at his salon, praised Frieda as “a true legend, a real maverick in hairdressing,” underscoring the profound impact he had on the profession.

The beauty industry mourns the loss of a pioneer whose work transcended generations, and his contributions will be remembered for years to come.
