Troops from Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have initiated a search-and-rescue operation for Mr. Victor Yakong, who was abducted by armed assailants in the Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State. The attack took place around 2:10 a.m. on November 4, 2026, at Rangarassang Rantiya, where Yakong and his colleague, Mr. Nensemk Yokshak, were targeted as they attempted to enter their home.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the two men were attacked while they were together, and during the incident, Yokshak managed to escape from the kidnappers. He subsequently raised the alarm, which led to a swift response from security forces. Upon receiving the report of the abduction, troops from Sector 3 of OPEP quickly mobilized to the scene.

In collaboration with Keystone personnel, the troops have commenced search operations in areas believed to be hideouts for the kidnappers. Efforts are ongoing to locate Yakong and ensure his safe return to his family. The incident underscores the persistent security challenges faced by residents in Plateau State, particularly in Bassa, where there have been ongoing efforts to combat kidnappings and other violent crimes.

The recent attack highlights the urgent need for enhanced security measures in the region, as authorities continue to grapple with the threat posed by armed groups. Local communities are increasingly concerned about their safety, prompting calls for more robust protective measures from law enforcement agencies.
