Troops eliminate three suspected kidnappers in Kogi forest operation
Operation Whirl Stroke troops target kidnappers in Kogi, resulting in three deaths.

In a decisive operation against kidnapping activities, troops from Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have killed three suspected kidnappers in Kogi State. The operation took place on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at around 7:30 a.m. in the Edimogbo and Obele forests, located in the Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area.
The successful raid was executed by the 21 Battalion Quick Response Force (QRF), in collaboration with the Kogi State Vigilante Service (KSVS). Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that this operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat the rising wave of kidnappings in the region.
Prior to this operation, troops had conducted several raids and search missions in Edimogbo Forest, aiming to locate the suspects who had been evading capture. The operation was a follow-up to these earlier efforts, as the soldiers expanded their search towards the Obele area, where the suspected criminals were believed to be hiding.
During the operation, the troops encountered the fleeing suspects, who attempted to escape upon seeing the advancing soldiers. However, they were quickly overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the military personnel. As a result, three of the suspects were killed in the ensuing confrontation.
This operation underscores the commitment of the Nigerian military and local security agencies to eradicate kidnapping and enhance safety in Kogi State. Authorities have been intensifying their efforts to track down and eliminate criminal elements operating in the forests, which have become notorious for such activities.
The recent success in this operation is expected to bolster the ongoing campaign against kidnappers and reassure residents of their safety as security forces continue to maintain pressure on criminal activities in the area.
