A significant wave of bomb threats has impacted at least 25 passenger flights across Europe, prompting emergency landings, diversions, and heightened security measures at multiple airports. This alarming series of incidents unfolded on Thursday, November 5, marking the second major occurrence of bomb alerts in European aviation within the same week.

Flights operating between Ireland and Bulgaria were notably affected, with reports of threats emerging from countries including France, Spain, Poland, Denmark, Italy, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Romania. An Aer Lingus Airbus A320, which was en route from Dublin to Rome, was diverted to a military airbase in Évreux, France, after receiving a bomb threat. Fortunately, the aircraft landed safely, carrying 151 passengers and six crew members, and bomb disposal teams were dispatched to conduct a thorough inspection.

Additionally, three Ryanair flights scheduled to fly to Bulgaria from Copenhagen, Madrid, and London were also targeted. Two of these flights successfully landed in Sofia, while the London-bound flight was redirected to Plovdiv. In a separate incident, Italian fighter jets were deployed to escort a Finnair flight from Helsinki to Rome following a bomb alert.

The affected flights included those operated by Wizz Air, LOT Polish Airlines, and Aegean Airlines. In response to the threats, authorities across several European nations activated emergency security protocols, leading to rigorous inspections of both passengers and aircraft. So far, no explosives have been discovered on any of the examined flights.

This latest wave of threats follows a similar series of incidents earlier in the week, where at least seven flights were also targeted, resulting in emergency landings and temporary disruptions at airports. European officials have previously pointed fingers at Russia for allegedly orchestrating sabotage and hybrid operations, but the European Union has emphasized that it is premature to determine any connections or assign responsibility for the current threats. Both Russia and Iran have denied involvement in these alleged activities.
