Vigilante member killed in Plateau State attack raises security concerns
An 18-year-old vigilante was killed during a midnight attack in Plateau State, prompting calls for better security.

An 18-year-old vigilante, Divine Dung Davou, was tragically killed during a midnight assault by armed men in Rachas Tatu village, located in the Heipang District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State. The attack occurred around 12:30 a.m. on November 3, 2026, while Davou was on duty, safeguarding his community.
Rwang Tengwong, the Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Movement (BYM), confirmed the incident, stating that the young vigilante was a dedicated member of the local community's security efforts. The attack has left both Davou's family and the broader Rachas community in deep mourning, highlighting the ongoing security challenges faced by rural areas in Plateau State.
In response to the incident, Tengwong expressed grave concerns regarding the safety of residents in vulnerable communities, urging the Plateau State Police Command and other security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the murder. He emphasized the need for immediate action to apprehend those responsible and to enhance security measures in the region.
"We call on the Plateau State and Federal Governments to take concrete measures to protect lives and property in communities that are often targeted by armed attacks," Tengwong stated. He stressed that routine assurances from authorities are no longer sufficient and that tangible actions must be implemented to ensure the safety of residents.
The BYM has extended its condolences to the bereaved family and the people of Rachas, urging security agencies to act swiftly to prevent further tragedies. The community's vulnerability to such attacks raises pressing questions about the effectiveness of current security strategies and the need for improved intelligence gathering and rapid response capabilities in the area.
This incident underscores the ongoing security crisis in Plateau State, where rural communities have frequently been subjected to violence. The call for enhanced security measures reflects a growing demand from residents for a safer environment, free from the threat of armed attacks. As the investigation unfolds, the hope remains that justice will be served and that measures will be put in place to protect innocent lives in the future.
