As the political atmosphere heats up in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has issued a provocative challenge to opposition politicians. In a recent post on his X platform, Keyamo sarcastically urged these politicians to provide evidence of electoral rigging by revealing the number of people they allegedly killed during elections.

Keyamo's remarks were a response to the emerging slogan, "rig and die," which has been circulating among opposition groups. He suggested that this phrase should be embraced by all, as it would prevent opposition parties from attributing electoral defeats to rigging in the event of a fair election. He argued that if opposition members are unable to show a corresponding number of casualties, their claims of rigging would lack credibility.

In his post, Keyamo stated, "The new buzz phrase 'rig and die' should excite all of us and we should all embrace it. The simple reason is that when those who are now trumpeting it lose woefully in a free and fair context, it will be impossible for them to hide their humiliation at the polls under the guise of 'rigging' as they have always done."

He further elaborated, saying, "This is because we will ask them how many 'riggers' they killed on the election day, because the number of those killed by them should be directly proportional to the amount of 'rigging' that took place! In other words, they need to show how many people they killed to prove the election was rigged!! Chai!!"

Keyamo's comments reflect the ongoing tensions and exchanges among political parties and their supporters as the nation gears up for the upcoming elections. His statements are likely to fuel further debate regarding electoral integrity and the responsibilities of political actors in the lead-up to the polls. The Minister's challenge raises questions about accountability and the narrative surrounding election violence in Nigeria, particularly as the country approaches a critical political juncture.

As the 2027 elections approach, the political landscape is expected to become increasingly charged, with both the ruling party and opposition groups preparing for a fierce contest. Keyamo's remarks serve as a reminder of the heightened stakes in the electoral process and the need for all parties to engage constructively in the democratic process.
