The Ekiti State Police Command has made significant progress in their investigation into the attack on Omoyele Sowore, the presidential aspirant of the African Action Congress (AAC), by arresting 11 suspects believed to be involved in the incident. The arrests occurred late Friday night at various locations in the Atikankan area of Ado-Ekiti, following a tip-off to the police.

According to a statement released by the police, the suspects include individuals aged between 18 and 53, with names such as Joseph Tayo, Olatunji Abayomi, and Salami Emmanuel among those apprehended. The police recovered several items during the arrests, including two walkie-talkies, substances suspected to be drugs, multiple mobile phones, and several ATM cards. The police emphasized that investigations are ongoing to clarify the roles of each suspect in the attack and to uncover any potential connections to the incident.

The attack on Sowore and his team took place at Tawakalitu Restaurant in Ado-Ekiti, where they were reportedly assaulted. Following the arrests, the Commissioner of Police, Falade Michael, reassured the public that all individuals involved in the attack would face justice. He stated, "We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that all those found culpable are brought to justice."

In response to the police action, Sowore expressed his concerns on social media, calling for the identification and prosecution of the masterminds behind the attack. He characterized the incident as a coordinated assault rather than a mere altercation, suggesting that some of the attackers may have ties to a local group known as the City Boys. Sowore has urged the police and the Department of State Services to secure and release CCTV footage from the restaurant to aid in identifying all those involved.

Sowore's demands highlight his belief that merely arresting the suspects is insufficient if those who orchestrated and funded the attack remain unpunished. He has also sought clarification from the police regarding their initial characterization of the event as an altercation, emphasizing the need for accountability in the matter.

As the investigation continues, the Ekiti State Police are under pressure to ensure that justice is served, not only for Sowore and his team but also to maintain public confidence in the safety and security of political activities within the state.
